• Yes, the Airport is connected to your modem. It takes the signal from the modem and pushes it out via WiFi.

• I cannot see that. Modems bring in the internet, IF you attach a router to a modem it should give you WiFI. There has to be a problem with the modem or it could be too old. There has to be a WIFI card in your computer or a cable attached to the router, so your computer has a connection. All connection setup has to be done on the computer.
