The distance would not be a major obstacle, but whether it works also depends upon the amount and type of physical barriers between your main router, the extender, and the garage. You should install this device where you have at least a 60-70% signal strength (so it extends a strong signal).

Not only do I get a strong signal in the 1st and 2nd floor of my garage I get one at the end of my yard ~ 200 feet away. Will try my Kindle on the next street and see if I pick it up there (so be sure to password protect your network)
