- Answer The distance would not be a major obstacle, but whether it works also depends upon the amount and type of physical barriers between your main router, the extender, and the garage. You should install this device where you have at least a 60-70% signal strength (so it extends a strong signal).

QuestionDoes this work with wireless signal or does it need a cat 5 cable to plug in only?Does this work with a wireless connection to a hotels wifi or do you need a wired cat 5 lan cable? Is there a battery option or is it plug in to AC outlet only?

- Answer This works wireless, no battery option - needs outlet. I have an outlet in my truck. There are adapters available if you don't have one.

- Answer I'm using the extended signals from my NETGEAR - Trek Wireless-N Travel Router and Range Extender to stream Netflix to a smart TV and a Bluray player with no problems so far. My main routers are downstairs, and I placed my NETGEAR - Trek Wireless-N Travel Router and Range Extender upstairs in the bedroom that houses the TV and Bluray. My house is 2 story with an attached garage apartment, and the NETGEAR - Trek Wireless-N Travel Router and Range Extender broadcasts wifi signals that cover the entire house and garage.

- Answer I would recommend using the apple airport. They seem to work together better when you have apple products. I had a netgear and the performance was poor I switched to airport router and it was 10x better
