This item can be plugged in anywhere within range of the initial WiFi network.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.it does not need to be plugged in next to router,, you can plug it where area is weak, but make sure once you plug it in that you have strong signal , that way yoh have a strong signal where you have dead spots

Please try again later.You need to plug it in close to the router only for setup, and don't be alarmed it may take several attempts to get it to connect to your router, be patient. You can then move it somewhere around the half way mark between the router and the device with the weak connection. We are very pleased with our results, buffering when streaming movies has dropped to almost zero.
