You'll definitely need a modem whether it's from a store or renting from the company. I would recommend getting one that has both wired and wireless built right in. If you rent then I recommend the Netgear Wireless G router because it's reliable, that's all you'll need. Also check out if you have Clear service available around your area. It offers MUCH more freedom. Good Luck. www.clear.com

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Any internet company will provide you with a modem as long as it is high speed internet. No one has used 56k dial up since i can remember so no worries there. But here is a fair warning to you sir or lady that may save you money. Some internet companies such as verizon offers you a free wi-fi router if you get a upgraded speed of 3-5 mbps and depended on the type of internet usage your using you may want to upgrade anyway. Most people don't know your internet wifi connection will suffer due to poor speed so keep that in mind well setting up your home.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is the product you need. The Netgear 802.11g wireless router. Your situation was my situation. My cable company wanted to charge to come out and set up wireless for $50 and charge for the router. I bought this same router. You will need the router and a network adapter. You only need the network adapter if any of your computers will not be wired to the router or they do not a have a built in adapter to receive the wireless signal. Most newer computer these days have a network apapter installed. My main computer is wired to the router, and the rest of my devices, laptop, Wii and PS3 are wireless, The setup was easy. You will have the modem from your cable company, and the router connected to the modem. Don't worry the instructions are clear and easy.
