    Reliable Router on a Budget

This is my first router and I have been very happy with it. The setup is very simple and takes less than 10 minutes, although you do need to follow the instructions since there is a specific order in which you are supposed to do things. Within minutes I had my WPA key encrypted--WEP and WPA2 are also offered--and was online with both my PC and PS3. Being somewhat of a power-user, when I started getting into some of the more advanced features I was pleased to find them logically organized in the router config with helpful explanations of each setting along the side of the screen; a very pain free experience... if you know what it is that you're trying to do. The transfer speeds are quite acceptable. When transferring files between my PC and PS3, for example 700MB at a 75% connection, it only takes 2-3 minutes to get the job done. And as far as gaming, Web browsing, or downloading is concerned I have experienced little to no lag. Over several months of use I have had very few dropped connections (not counting someone firing up the microwave), and really no large issues of any kind. The only bug that has crept up is the router somehow not recognizing my WPA key. This has happened twice so far, and only required my returning to the router configuration screen to re-enter the password; however it is very odd that I have not once, but twice had this occur. Other than that one issue, I am very pleased and give this product my full recommendation.

    Great wireless router

Purchased this wireless router to use at my Aunts house down in Florida since she did not have one and I needed to take my MacBook Pro and work wireless for some clients while I was at her house. This wireless router is a basic one that will only connect a limited amount of wireless devices. If you are going to connect NAS, multiple wireless devices and IP camera's, I would advise not to purchase this wireless router and spend the $150 for a bigger capacity one.

For a Simple Cheap Router at BB, this is it.

I installed this using Windows 7 before it is officially released and caused me problems getting it installed from the CD. I had search for compatible installation drivers which led me to http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101649_all.asp and I installed it and it worked fine. But this is an affordable, fast, and very easy to install(I'm a network expert) router unlike what others are saying. I tested it for distance and it worked just as fast ~ 20-25 feet away(I live in an apartment). The 192.168.1.1/ had a simple GUI interface with some normal features like WPA + WPA2 but had a few cool features like Port Forwarding/Triggering for game connections(AOE and quake) and simple firmware upgrading. This is definitely a router for simple use, but don't buy this if your expecting to use next generation N+ support and 108MBPS but that won't be too popular for another few years.

    Great Home Router

At first I was extremely concerned when making my first router purchase mainly because I use the internet a lot for downloads, uploads, movie/tv watching and I did not want my internet connection becoming so slow it became obsolete. Well I just went for this router, mainly because of it's design-which is super beautiful and minimal-and price. Well worth it! We have our whole townhome covered, the router in the living room, and it reaches every crevice from our home. The only negative would be that when I had installed this on my mac and then found out that for some reason the netgear router, wifi or something was not being read on the other windows laptop. THIS IS NOT A NETGEAR ISSUE, rather it is an issue with drivers on some windows computers and if you too have this issue and think it's because of the router, it isn't. Google the solution, I had called HP and they rudely did not want to give me an answer because I was not in warranty, they were going to charge me 15 dollars to even tell me. I spent more time fighting HP than I did googling the issue, finding the missing drive and installing it. Great home router, very simple to install and manage.

So easy a 6-year-old could install it...

...and he did! I was worried I couldn't hook it up so my two sons (6 and 8) took the initiative. I'm not kidding. The instructions are illustrated, so even a chimpanzee with good fine motor skills could get this working. My younger son was eager to pop in the CD that comes with the device, but my desktop is so old, it couldn't support the version of Windows required to run it. So, we skipped the CD, as one other reviewer suggested. And now my kids are able to hook up their video games and I can run my laptop and iPad off the router. Now if I could only get these two geniuses to help me secure the network... Bottom line: Great product for the money. Great performance. Easy to install. As my 6-year-old would say: How cool is that?

    Simple Setup, Solid Performance

I discontinued my dependence on the cable company for my Internet and went with a local provider. We have two desktops, two laptops, a netbook, an iPad, and a Blackberry that all use WiFi access to the Internet. I installed the WGR614 Netgear 802.11g Wireless Router in my utility closet (where my Internet enters the house) and I've got solid signal upstairs and down. My entire network is totally wireless. It was a piece of cake to configure, including security. One of my desktop computers and a printer are connected to a WGPS606 Netgear Wireless Print Server, which receive their network connectivity through the Wireless Router. We've been using this setup round-the-clock for about two months now and haven't had any problems at all. I deliberately selected the less exensive "slower" model because the 54Mbps network speed is higher than my 10Mbps Internet source speed. We don't do a lot of network communications between devices and so we didn't feel the higher speed router was necessary. Someday, when we move into a bigger house and do more file sharing between machines, I will probably upgrade to a faster Netgear router. But for right now, this serves our needs at a very reasonable price.

    Great Wireless Router!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my first wireless router, and it's nothing short of awesome! Before the Netgear wireless router, i had a wired Linksys router. and was obviously limited to cables and wires. but with this wireless router, you can enjoy the FREEDOM of wireless networking! It's small, it's apealing to the eyes, it's easy to set up. the only complaint is that the installation cd that came with the router was NOT compatible with windows 7. the router is compatible with windows 7, but the cd does not recognize the O.S., and will not install the proper drivers for you. so i had to call the NetGear customer service...and they were able to hook me up through their website with no problem. within 15 mintues i had my desktop, laptop, and netbook all connected to the internet. overall, it's great! not the BEST, but certainly not the worst! excellent product

    Decent router

Firstly installation was very simple. Pop the disc in and follow the instructions(apparently some of the people who were complaining about installation can't follow directions) all together it took 5-8 mins tops. Don't see why people are having a hard time installing a simple router that comes with a instruction manual, that or people bought bum routers. Overall this is a very good router. For me i need a cheap router even though my modem goes at 101 Mbps, this router gives you around 52 Mbps, but it is still decently fast. The only problem is that once in a while it will drop the connection, but all you have to do is plug it out then back in,thats all. If you want decent a router a a decent price then i suggest you buy this

I didn't know how much i was going to get for $30 bucks but after using it the router is great, very strong and easy to setup. It works great it our home, runs 2 Xbox's online, multiple laptops and wifi all at same time with no lag or problems. Its very inexpensive and i would recommended getting one! Also very sleek looking, lights up well and can be hidden.

While there are routers with better performance and more features, this router is a nice package for the price. Easy installation and decent range make this a good router for most home installations. Throughput wasn't as good as some Linksys and Netgear routers I have used, but it was good enough for streaming regular definition video. The security functionality was average, but exactly what most people will need. Again, a good value for the money.

I never set up a router before. Took me a few moments to figure it out, but then it was very easy. Color-coded/tagged wires and ports. Works great, have an excellent signal thoughout my home, including outside on my deck. Even does well with my Zune. As for ease of use and performance, once you have it set up, you can forget about it, so I guess it is easy to use and great performance. Good buy for the money.

I've had this and it's modified older version for a VERY long time. they work GREAT. I've been using this same router for over 5 years now and it works perfect. I bought this recently because I gave the other router to my grandmother since she's no expert and I expect it won't cause her any problems. I'm happy with this purchase. This router gives me speeds of upto 75 in reality but it's built for upto150 (it's slower for me cuz i've got a lot hooked up to it and the distance I use it at is greater). I gave it 4 stars only cuz the xbox was having probs with it at first. I feel this is a reliable product, I've yet to see that. I also covered it with a $10 extended warranty plan for 2 years so if God forbid something happened I'm still covered. I recommend this reliable thing cuz it works better than it's more expensive counterparts even within Netgear family. Good Luck making your decision. If you're looking for something else tho check out the recommendations.

I seriously considered another Belkin product as was my last but I was very disappointed that the old Belkin could not be updated or repaired. Decided not to spend big bucks again and bought the Netgear instead. After all, if it crapped out after a short time, I could buy another and still save money. To my surprise the Netgear was easier to set up than the Belkin had been, I stepped right through the setup process which any adult can follow, and was up and running within 20 minutes. Since that first start up three weeks ago, the unit works 24/7 flawlessly without requring a reboot! Range around my home is no different than with the previous unit. I am really satisfied. I would recommend this wireless router to anyone. Save your money and still get an excellent product.

This is my second Netgear router and they seem to have smoothed out some of their installation issues from the last time I did this. The instructions and box-opening process are quick, clear and easy to follow. They even give you some visual aids with the install-cd. Once installed (10-15 mins) you have the option of password assignment versus push-button network membership. I was setting this up for my Dad and I think having a push-button option is a nice convenience versus having to enter a 26 character hex password. Signal strength on the primary floor is excellent, even outside the house on the deck/patio to about 25 ft away. The other floors of the home seemed to suffer a little and could not get more than a couple of bars on my BBerry wifi meter. The signal is not super-strong, but consistent enough to stream Netflix to my Dad's Blu-ray player. At this price point, this unit represents an excellent value and should serve it's purpose for several years to come.

We've used this router for the past two years and it's proven to be a reliable product. Anyone with basic computer knowledge can set up this router, and the included documentation is straightforward and helpful. The build quality is excellent; this router has survived several 3-foot tumbles onto a tile floor with no damage either comestically or functionally. The range and strength of the connection is also excellent. We've had no problems establishing a strong connection from across the apartment. The only downside about this router is that we've had to ocassionally reset it when the connection freezes. To clarify, internet speed will stop even though the connection remains uninterrupted. Whenever this happens, unplugging and replugging the router solves the problem. We've had this issue with every router we've had, so this is likely not a fault specific to this model. Generally, this occurs every two to three days.

Works great with PS3 and Wii once I set up the device properly. Unfortunately the installation CD doesn't work with Windows Vista 64-bit OS (this really needs to be fixed since the box clearly states a Vista compatibility). Fortunately, there is a wealth of information regarding this router on the internet...simply google "WRG614 setup" and you will find plenty of sites that give step by step instructions on how to proceed. After that i had the router up and running in about 20 minutes (this being the first router I have ever installed). PS3 and Wii both found the network without any problems and I've been happy with the product since.

Great WiFi router for the money

This router is a simple plug and play router that offers great signal strength, and security to protect your wireless environment. It comes with an install disc in the event that you are using it as a stand alone router, but if you are using it in line with other routers do not use it. The price is very competitive and we are operating up to 4 laptops at a time in our home and have yet to experiance any lag time with the wireless internet, or skype. This is a great buy if you are looking for reliable signal strength at a low cost.

I bought this to replace a Dynex POJ. Was a great buy thus far. The Dynex died on its second birthday, to the day. The Netgear actually makes my laptop faster, it feels like!! Here's the skinny: This router is routing signal to 3 laptops and 1 desktop pc, and as I said before, my laptop actually seems to surf faster since I installed it. My son feels the same way- he plays some galaxy gate game which streams live... Speaking of installation: SUPER easy!! Great buy for the money!! Happy surfing!

Saw this router right beside a Belkin N for the same price. I questioned getting the Netgear because I was afraid of the signal strength not being strong enough to get around the apartment and on the balcony area so I researched them both on the Best Buy website while in store on the Macs. To my surprised the Belkin was scoring low and this little guy was being touted as one of the best at that price. So I chose the Netgear after reading reviews. It was super easy to install and set up. Took about 5 mins at the most. The signal strength was also more surprising. The apartment now uses it as the wireless base and since its now in the closet I was afraid at how the signal strength would be affected and it still just works like its in the open. I have full coverage in the whole apartment, coverage on the balcony and even on the third floor I can still use the router outside on the ground floor at my car. Its amazing how above and beyond the coverage is on this. I highly reccommend it!

I am not experienced with computer setup. Actually far from it, but this Netgear router was a simple set up. Instructions were easy to follow, and set up was about 20 minutes. I have this router connected to my cable modem. The signal strenght is acceptable. I have the router up on my computer desk about 5 feet off the ground in a back bedroom and receive a 70-100 percent signal strength, through a wall, about 50 feet away in the living room. I can even go outside in the backyard, and frontyard and stay connected. Downside is considerably slower when more than one computer is on the wireless signal. I expect to go slower, but this is considerable.
