Your list of connections are correct. Make sure to use the correct port from router to cable modem! A wireless laptop (or any other wireless device) can connect automatically IF the device is correctly configured to do so. This means naming your network on the router and setting up security. Use your desktop for these tasks. Files on one computer will not be visible ("shared") to other computers unless you specifically set it up to do so.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the connestion sequence seems right, modem to router and router to PCs either wired or wireless. connecting wireless is easy and done through setup. the router setup program is straight forward and lets you set up wepkeys and pass phrases to allow your devices to connect securely. (use some security and avoid the no security option. you don't have to share files you don't want to with some or all of the computers on the network.

If your laptop can detect the signal from the wireless router, it should be able to access the internet (as long as you use the security password which you configured during the router setup. Some wireless routers, like the NETGEAR, have a password already configured for each router; you can change it if you wish.) 3. Couple of different ways to do this: - set up a "guest" access where guests can get internet access, but not access your private network. - in windows, set up the laptop's access as "public" vs "home" network which will allow sharing - in desktop, do not allow sharing of files with other computers on the network
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your connection settings are correct. You should not be able to connect to files between your desktop and laptop unless you have file sharing turned on. Windows file sharing protection is separate from internet access via your router. Similarly, just because you connect via a laptop at Starbucks or Panera Bread along with a number of other laptop users, it doesn't automatically mean that everyone can see your files. Those settings should be configured on your PC. Additionally, you should have a password for your account on both systems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No just follow quick instructions and unless you click share on your files you can keep them private.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Answer to first question is correct. Just because you are sharing a router doesn't mean your laptop and desktop will share files. They are just sharing internet access. Laptop will have access once you put in the passcode of your router.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You should turn off sharing files on your machines. I haven't worked with Apple products but I know with Windows you are able keep all your files hidden from any other devices on a network. Just google how to turn off network shares and there should be plenty of information on this.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First Question: That configuration is correct. Second Question: As long as your laptop is correctly configured to connect to the wireless network on the router, when it has completed powering up, it will connect wirelessly to the internet. Depending on how fast your computer is, you may have to wait 1-2 minutes between when your computer gets into Windows and when wireless is available. Third Question: Most Wireless-N routers have a guest network feature. With Guest Network feature enabled, you can uncheck the option to "Allow guest to access My Local Network".
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, your connection pathway is correct - I used the same setup for my Netgear router and it works perfectly. When you power up your laptop, it should automatically search for local wireless networks... If the router is working correctly, it will show as a new result and you can click it to access. You will probably need the password code that is listed on a sticker on the botton of the router to access the network from your laptop and any other devices in the home. I don't know for sure about sharing files, but my laptop and desktop are completely separate and do not have any files shared at all. I think you would have to set up a home network and choose an option to share files for this to happen; in my experience, which is limited, this will not happen automatically.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You have it correct. You need not turn on file sharing for the wireless laptop to access the Internet through the router. It is how our network is set up at home for several different devices on two level home.
