No. AF-P lenses are not compatible with the Nikon D40 DSLR camera. For a lens that is fully compatible with this camera model check out AF-S type lenses, like the Nikon AF-S AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens or the DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens.
