• Yes, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens is compatible with the D3500. The D3500 is compatible with AF-S and AF-P type lenses. This lens will be usable for portraits, you just have to keep in mind that you may have to be a little farther away from your subject as this is a telephoto zoom lens.
