• Yes. The aperture is quite wide on this lens (f/1.8) which creates the nice depth of field, blurring out the background while keeping the subject in sharp focus.

• Any lens will do this if you set the right aperture. Aperture controls your depth of field, the lower the aperture the greater your depth of field(more of the scene is in focus), the higher the aperture less depth of field.
