“I wanted to buy a 50mm lense for low light portrait style photography. I have a d7500 which is has a crop sensor and from what I understand is that for a crop sensor this lense might be closer to a 50mm (52mm if my math is right) Is that right?”

• Yes, I have nikon d5200 which is a crop censor too. It really closer but it work for portrait but I don't recommend for group shoot.

• The Nikon D7500 DSLR camera is a DX-format camera. When the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is used with a DX-format camera you will experience no crop factor and will have a minimum angle of view of 44° in the DX-format.
