Yes, the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens is super-fast can take amazing action images in low-lit situations.

I can get close to the action for the games/matches I'm shooting, yet I'm still cropping a lot of the pictures I take with this lens (although it's not a deal breaker). However, on my DX cameras, the 50mm 1.8G is a better fit distance-wise to the action and the 85mm f1.8G has worked well for me too. For the price, it's worth buying the 35mm f1.8G DX from Best Buy and experimenting with it. I believe you'll keep the lens, because it yields good results and is incredibly flexible for a lot of situations beyond action shots (for c. $200 it's great). I hope that helps answer your question.
