“i ordered this lens the pictures show it should have a case but i didn't receive one the box says case is optional is there a reason for that? i also seen other people buy this same lens and they got an extra piece (hood) the box also says it's optional??”

I recently purchased lens. I was disappointed lens did not come with case, back cap nor hood. Sorry I can't give you reason for items not added. I asked salesperson why it did not at least come with case and back cap. I was told more lens are being sold without what he referred to is added accessories. I feel it should be automatic for the lens protection. I asked him to add case and back cap to my order. I was told I'd have to order case and back cap directly through Nikon. He suggested purchasing bubblewrap to store lens in camera case. Needless to say, I am not happy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In 2018, this lens is shipped with only a front lens cover and a slip on cover for the rear of the lens. You can buy a lens shade (hood) and a soft pouch for carrying it. The hood is really NOT necessary. This lens is almost immune to flare caused by the sun hitting the front element of the lens so a hood to shade the lens is not needed. I use a 53mm Hoya UV filter to protect the lens from dust and dirt, but don't use the hood. If you do want a hood anyway, you can buy the original Nikon hood from the Nikon website, or from on-line stores. Any medium size lens pouch will protect the lens in your bag. Any camera store has pouches and they are easy to find on-line.
