“Is this lens suppose to have a high pitched noise? I bought this lens brand new and when I auto-focus with the VR turned on, I noticed that it makes a high pitched noise. Is there something wrong with the lens or is it normal?”

That doesn't not sound right! You should take it back! It should make just a little sound with focusing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The VR system and focus motor can make odd noises when in operation. One I've used even sounded like a babbling brook. So long as it is working properly, this is fine.
