Your camera, the D5300 does not have a built-in focus motor. This is done to keep the size of the camera compact. The lenses you would need to use, should you require autofocus, are Nikon lenses with the AF-S designator. This means that the lens has Nikon's Silent Wave Autofocus Motor built-in to it. The 24-120 f/4 is an AF-S lens. It is compatible and you will be able to use Aufofocus on your camera.
