This is an excellent all around lens, 24mm is a substantial wide angle and 85mm zooms enough for portraits and other shots. 
It’s not too fast at 85mm, but for outdoors it’s great.

Yes, without a doubt. This is a great midrange zoom that you can glue to your body (sarcasm). My personal walk around lens is the 35 mm DX lens. Not a good choice if you are full frame.
