• No, the AF-S NIKKOR 55-300mm lens is a DX format lense. Because of their construction, DX format lenses are not compatible with teleconverters.

• I actually tried this combo once with a d5200, but it did not work out. The answer is no, it will not work with that lens. I would check the Nikon website for that list of compatible lenses.
