I’m not sure what the manufacturer’s reason was for the low pixel count but in the case of dslr’s the lower pixel count improves light gathering for the sensor. Seeing as this camera has such a long zoom I think this reasoning applies. The further you zoom in the less light gets to the sensor. It’s perhaps a balance between megapixel and useability at longer zoom ranges.

I am very pleased with the P1000 and the 16Meg sensor, Remember this is a small sensor, that is how they get the 3000mm zoom equivalent, As for expensive, try and price a 3000mm lens... :). This camera is a bargain!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It's because 80% of the price goes to the lense! If the sensor is a full frame then expect for the price to be 10 times more with it's very own special zoom lense.
