“With both of the lenses included with this camera in this bundle would I be able to take portrait pictures with a blurred background and a focus on the person? Or would I need another lens?”

The soft-focus background effect that you are referring to is called 'bokeh' and is created when your image has a very shallow depth of field. The D3300's Portrait Scene Mode is designed specifically for this purpose, but you can also manually choose camera settings to create this effect. The D3300 Reference Manual covers this topic in the section on A-Aperture Priority Mode. You can also find several articles on this topic in the Learn & Explore section of Nikon USA's website. The lens that you use will play a big part in creating bokeh. The lenses in this kit are good general purpose lenses with a wide range of uses. If are serious about portrait photography you may wish to add a lens that can shoot at lower f#s, like the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Standard lens or the Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Standard lens.
