Yes it is great for beginners, not sure about the T7i but my old Canon DSLR likes to beep and refuse to take pictures at times this 3500 don't it just cycles and let's you see. The controls on the Nikon are better positioned to me but that's just preference. I will say accessories (extra lenses, converters, etc..) are cheaper for Canon
