While both of these cameras would be great choices, their main differences are in what features are added. For instance, the D5600 has a touch screen that rotates out to the side, where as the D3500 has a fixed LCD screen that does not offer touch capabilities. The D5600 also offers a full custom settings menu that allows for extra options where the D3500 uses preset modes that you can go to depending on your shooting conditions.
