The Nikon D5500 DSLR camera body was originally distributed and sold in February of 2015. The Nikon D5600 DSLR camera body is the newest addition to the Nikon D5000 line but is not replacing the D5500 at this time. Both DSLR bodies are currently available for purchase as a new product with no "end distribution" date shown for either of them.
