While both these cameras can use a large variety of interchangeable NIKKOR lenses they are quite different from each other. One difference is that the Nikon D5100 has only 11 points of focus while the Nikon D5600 has 39 points of focus. Another difference is how many effective megapixels each has; the D5100 offers 16.2 million while the D5600 has 24.2 million available. Yet another major of difference is the that the D5600 has an ability to connect via built-in Bluetooth to a smart device running the SnapBridge application; this wireless connection allows you to transfer images instantly through the app or use it as a remote trigger for the camera. The D5100 does not have built-in wireless capability. To learn more about the differences between these two camera models please contact Nikon Support.
