Being able to trigger an SB-500 remotely is dependent on if your camera offers the Commander Mode Function found in the Custom Settings Menu. It will be in the Bracketing/Flash menu, under the option Flash Control for Built-in Flash/Optional Flash. To verify if your camera has this, please see the camera's manual.
