THe WU-1b is not compatible with the NIkon D3100. The WU-1a, however, is compatible with the Nikon D3200. You can connect the camera to your smartphone or tablet with Nikon's APP, downloadable from the APP STORE or GOOGLE PLAY. It is called the Wireless Mobile Utility.
