“My brew basket always pops out and doesn’t finish brewing.I actually have to tape it if I want to brew coffee & even then it doesn’t brew a full pot on normal a setting, is there something I am doing wrong, or did I just get a defective coffee pot?”

The basket slider is getting stuck. Open the basket and work the slider by hand to see if it’s sticking. If it is, spray some cooking spray in the slider and work it back and forth until it frees up.
