Hello: The difference between the 201 and 501 models are the amount of functions.. The 201 has 7 functions, such as ice cream, lite ice cream, sorbet, milkshake, smoothie bowl, gelato and the ability to do mix-ins. The 501 has the same as I just mentioned, plus it has frozen yogurt, creamiccino, frozen drink, slushi, and italian ice. the mix-in function is the capability add treats, like cookies, candies, fruit, chocolate, etc. I hope this helps.
