You shouldn’t need to push down. Try just turning it to the LEFT to begin. Then RIGHT to Release the pressure, when it’s time. (I use a thick hot mat, when releasing.) Make sure you release slowly, & keep your face as far back as you can. You want to always make sure children aren’t around either. If used properly, it is very safe. But that steam is extremely hot. Enjoy!
