• You are using a mac for gaming... there is almost no way you could get more than 60fps on any modern title at 1080p. Not recommended for your setup.

• It would work but not very well since that macbook would never hit 144 fps on any modern game. So simple answer the mac cannot use the 144hz to its full capability.
