You can upgrade the processor to an I7 7th generation and it will fit the socket. If you go 8th gen I7 or above, you have to replace the motherboard to use the new one. I found this out the hard way and purchased the 8th gen that I could not use in my motherboard. After exchanging for s 7th gen...couldn't be hsppier!
