“Laptop powers on, work when routed through hdmi, but the screen doe not work on its own. Is this a repair that can be done by Geek Squad? Can you install backlights or power inverters, or is that something that'd require being sent off to HP?”

Hello, while your local Geek Squad may be able to determine what is wrong with your display (drivers, connection, a setting on the laptop, etc) they would not be able to repair it if it is a hardware issue with the display itself. I would still suggest visiting your nearby Best Buy to speak to one of our agents and discuss what may be going on and how it can be resolved.
