Hi.. I have a similar receiver and I have to turn it on so it can detect the HDMI and have to change the input.

I haven't see the stand by mode on this receiver. However I turn it off when ever possible. Also, if it detects a signal it doesn't turn on automatically. I have to manually turn it on. hope this helps.
