Either or, not both. If you have an HDMI BD/DVD plugged in, it overrides the composite DVD in. You can physically connect both SD and HD devices but you will have to unplug the HDMI cable to get composite/component audio to pass thru the tuner. Also, DVD video is not passed to the video monitor via HDMI when using DVD composite. You'll have to use the "Monitor" output on the Onkyo and connect to the monitor, or simply take video directly from the DVD player to the monitor.
