Yes . 3.1 Just means you have a set of front speakers ( 1, 2 ) and a center channel speaker ( 3 ) and a subwoofer ( this is the .1 of the 3.1 ) . Adding rear surround speaker will make the ( 4 , 5 ) and if you add side surround speakers , you'll get the (6 , 7 ) of a 7.1 system . Adding another subwoofer will give you the ( . 2 ) of the system . Yes , you can add two subwoofers to any of the combinations thus making a 3.2 , 5.2 or 7.2 if you like extra bass . Or if you decide to not use a center channel speaker ( 3 ) , you can do that as well .
