It does require update. On the specs for this amp on Amazon it says right there,"Atmos available with update". Which is R108. My Amp had R106. Some owners say they have R110 which isn't even available to download from Onkyo.I returned this and got a Sony which also needed an update, but it worked! Used then same USB drive too! Pity Onyko has no support. I liked the amp. Oh, well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't believe it requires a firmware update. My Atmos worked right out of the box. You need to be sure you have HDMI cables that support Atmos. There are plenty of good options on Amazon. I opted for the Cable Matters 8K which supports Atmos and 4K at 120 Hz.
