Great A/V Unit. ONKYO TX SR393
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Purchased receiver for $160 and it sounds F'n great. Easy set up and connections. The sound is incredible while watching YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, and the like. I am rockin out and shakin the walls. Final results will depend on choice of speakers and location. Fantastic unit for the price. I use DCM center, Velodyne sub-woofer Cerwin-Vega fronts, and Sony for the rears. Love It!

Onkyo As a Company
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. Before I discuss this model, I want to talk about Onkyo. Nearly a decade ago I bought a Onkyo Receiver for a home theater setup. Being an early adopter, this early unit developed a problem where it would loose its program settings under certain situations. You have to remember that this was early on in programable A/V models where you could assign sources to any HDMI/Optical/Analog jacks to your heart's content. Onkyo support was awesome. My case was immediately upgraded to an engineer, who rewrote some code for the new model, and send me a firmware update that fixed the issue forever. Well nearly a decade anyway. A couple of days a go while setting it up to run audio from a new TV, I was having difficulty routing the audio to the optical IN jack. It looked like the TV and Receiver could see each other, so I bit the bullet to call Onkyo Support regarding a 9 year out of warranty product. I got a live support person within 2 minutes, and within 1 more minute I had the answer to the issue: an internal chip no longer available from Texas Instruments had failed, so there was unfortunately nothing to be done for it. So, it was time to shop for a new receiver (I do love electronic toys!), so I started looking for the early Black Friday deals for Sony, Yamaha, etc.. But then, it hit me... how many companies would have an English speaking tech support person take time to a help debug a 9 year old device? I immediately found an Onkyo receiver on sale at Best Buy. Ordered it for curbside pickup, and 3 hours later I was enjoying a small home theater setup complete with Apple TV/Blu-Ray connected to a late model Samsung TV with very limited hookup options. (HDMI In/Optical Out/Ethernet/USB In) I will add that this is a mid line model that will work great for living room setups where you have good speakers, and don't want to go the sound bar option. It felt good supporting people who stand by their products. That said, I highly recommend Onkyo, and hope you will consider them for your next receiver purchase.

Great Receiver for your home theater!
||Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I bought this one to replace my old Onkyo 7.1 channel receiver which entertained us for over 15 years. I needed a receiver which supports 4K HDR content and this one fitted my budget. I’ve connected Klipsch Reference Theatre Pack 5.1 to the receiver and the sound quality is amazing. I would definitely recommend this product Onkyo is a very reliable brand.

Great budget receiver with lots of power
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I researched several receivers prior to selecting this one. I needed one that has enough wattage but provided a quality experience. I wasn't disappointed. For the price it is a great deal. It provides plenty of power to our ceiling speakers.

Replacement Receiver
||Posted .Good little receiver. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted as far as function goes, but that’s because I’m way out of step with today’s technology. It is great for the installation I’m running it in., primarily for a smart TV and Blue Ray player. I am concerned about the harmonic distortion figure at full power, but since I run highly efficient speakers and a powered subwoofer I’ll never need to press it that hard. I wish it had a phono input, though.

very good low-end receiver
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.i got this receiver to replace a sony receiver that my warrenty could not fix and died. This is the TX-SR393 model and The 1 thing i like with onkyo's are the warmth of the sound and this one has it.Can be a bit tricky to setup for a novice...this receiver only came with a setup guide but you can download a manuel from the website.it's HD-HDR compatible,Dolby Atmos 4k,and alot of different configs for speaker setup (even a 3.2 setup) but what was impressive was the sub-woofer sound...maybe because i have an onkyo subwoofer but the low-end was so much better on this receiver than my sony.i really should have gotten this receiver before buying the sony...not saying sony makes bad receivers just that mine only lasted 8 months and the onkyo i had before i brought the sony lasted 16yrs.

Q: QuestionDolby Atmos surround is accomplished only with a 7.2 speaker surround set up. (2 speakers in ceiling or pointed upward) How can this 5.2 receiver be capable of Atmos surround?
Asked by Joe.
- A:Answer This receiver virtualizes 2 speakers for the Dolby Atmos surround sound. Ive found the dolby 5.1 to be a better listening experience than the dolby atmos on this receiver.

Q: QuestionWhy is the Volume ratio so different from my last receiver. # wise there is at least a 20 digit difference between the two. Like IF I had it on 30 on the last receiver I now have to put it on 45 or 50 to get the same volume. This has 55 more watts too.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I can not tell you exactly why it is and also happened to me What I can do is tell you that I did to improve the problem and believe me it turned out. Look in Settings where it says IntelliVolume and change it from 0 dB to 6+ dB. and that's it I hope it helps you.

Q: QuestionI connected my Onkyo Tx-SR393 to a 65" Highsense Roku Tv. However I am unable to get the audio from tv through the receiver to surround sound. I have used an hdmi cable and aux audio cables . What am I missing? How do I correct this?
Asked by DrunkenChef.
- A:Answer 1st-Goto your tv settings. Goto sound and make sure hdmi is selected and not tv speakers or optical. 2nd-Make sure you run the cable thru the arc(audio return channel) hdmi port and not a regular hdmi port. Hopefully your tv has one. Use a premium hdmi cable and not a cheap one because it will short if using arc hdmi. 3rd-Make sure you do the initial setup thru the receiver and that you configure your surround setup properly (i.e. speaker configuration).

Q: QuestionI have a current home theater system and just want to replace my receiver. Can I use my current speakers and sub? I current have an LG system, it’s 1000 watts and 165 per channel.
Asked by JRod.
- A:Answer You could use the speakers. You might blow them kinda quickly if your lg was a home theater in a box. Watts are not the same. There is no industry standard for watts. As for the subwoofer it depends if it’s active or passive. Basically if it has a build in amp on the sub box. This receiver just sends a signal to the sub. No power to sub.
