True Dolby atmos requires that you have height speakers. Height speakers are mounted on the ceiling and shoot sound downward, or they can be upward firing speakers that bounce sound down from the ceiling. When playing something in dolby atmos, the reciever will be able to play it but you wont get true dolby atmos unless you have the height speakers.
