“I just purchesed the Onkyo TX-nr686 receiver and have it wired and installed except for a VCR. I have a Panasonic VCR that has RCA type connectors and an coaxal out on it but there is nowhere on this receiver for a VCR. How can I connect it?”

It does. It's just not labeled directly because Onkyo believes hardly anyone owns a VCR any more. Just connect the yellow wire to one of the yellow plugs and the red and white wires in the red+white plugs (labeled TV would work). You may need to go into settings to assign the audio to match the video. Coax is for very old TVs or as passthru from old cable boxes.
