Magic Jack requires a computer to run or be running in order for it to work. Where as Ooma is it's own computer an telco device all in one. that is why I prefer Ooma. Yes you can take it out of the country just make sure that you have the proper power adapters for it to work.

Never used magic jack, but this is a very good unit. I don't think you can can because it goes by your area code and phone number. Yes it will work in other countries a friend said they bought one for his mother in law and they have one so they can talk for hours and don't have to pay for long distance prices.
