“Has anyone tried this with a home elevator? We are building a new home with an elevator for a senior parent. Code requires we that the built-in phone is able to call out in the event the elevator gets stuck between floors when someone is on it.”

Yes & No. This requires internet and power where a home phone is powered through the phone line even when there is a power failure. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The control unit for your elevator system should be provided with a terminal connection where a land phone line or other service can be connected. The cable that rides with the elevator provides the connection to the in-cab phone unit inside the elevator cart. You can connect the Telo unit to the TELCO terminals in the elevator control unit, just check to make sure your elevator inspector or AHJ will approve the use of an IP phone signal in lieu of a hard line (land line) service.
