“I was told by an owner of the HD27e that it had gray translucent bars that borders the top and bottom of the projected screen. Is this true? or could his 27e have some sort of issue?”

Hello. The shadow border around the projected image from the Optoma HD143X and HD27e is inherent to the architecture of the new DMD chip used. It is not noticeable when used with a projection screen with black borders and does not affect picture quality. These projectors display high-quality 1080p images and will perform as expected.
