Sadly, we too had the same experience and no amount of pushing nor twisting was effective to removing the blade portion of the mixer from the motor base without the jar becoming unscrewed. Smoothie leaked everywhere and we had to turn the unit upside down to remove the bottle. Returned to Best Buy (whom cheerfully issued a prompt refund) with the blade assembly still attached to the base. To me, an engineering flaw due to this new locking mechanism. You also cannot leave the blender unattended, you must continuously pulse or hold the power button. Reverting back to the 250 watt older model that has no such issue (although Best Buy no longer carries the 250 watt model...website says: "This item is no longer available in new condition").
