The outer case—the part you touch when you hold the phone—is a hard rubber. The surface is textured and provides a nice grip while still allowing you to slide it in and out your pocket without difficulty. I clean the case with antiseptic wipes daily. After several months, It has not shown any signs of cracking or breakdown.
