“I have a brand new player and am getting the message disc not compatible. The discs I tried are brand new 4K. Tried dvd and blu also, it played two out of ten. Firmware is up to date too.”

You need to have a 4k Ultra blu-ray player. 4k movies will not play in a blu-ray player. And if you look on the back of 4k movies, It will tell that you need a 4k tv and a 4k Ultra blu-ray player. It should work if you have both of these things.
