1. It is very easy. Put the supplied batteries in the remote, put on the battery cover. Plug in the base unit to power and the phone line, put the remote in the base and wait a day or so while the batteries in the remote charge. It probably takes less time but who knows. 2. Works with our cable, and I don't see why it would have a problem with any cable. There are a bunch of things you can configure if you want to. Loudness and tone of the bell, whether you want it to announce in coming calls and some others.
