I'm not sure what you mean exactly. If it is a home phone, using a landline/voip via your phone company or cable/internet provider, the phone will work once the power and phone cord are connected. If it is a cell phone, it will need to be paired via bluetooth. Also the batteries have enough juice to go through the set up and make a few calls, but you will need to charge 6-8 hours for a full charge.
