• Yes, the phone lights up when it rings or if there is an alert (text, email) it can read the type of alert (text, facebook, etc) and the text sender name programmed in your mobile.

• Yeah, it does. Mine says "new messages" right now. Also, you can dictate the message from remote phones as well as hear the caller.
