• yes, bases are not designated to the handsets. the numbers on the handset are for the intercom... if you want to call a particular handset, that may be in another room, you need to know that handsets number. this information is all in the manual...

• Yes, the handsets stand into the charging cradle usually, only one of them stands into the base unit. All of them can be used.
