“Does the handset give an audible low battery warning during use or does it just show battery level on the phone? I have an older version and if I don't remember to check the battery level before using the handset I am cut off during a call.”

I recently purchased this item, but the book indicates that if the handset beeps and/or flashes the battery is low and requires charging. I so far love this phone and find it just the right size, weight and functions that I need.
