I added an incredibly fast M.2 SSD (Samsung 970 EVO 500GB) to my HP 24-r114, which resulted in a very significant overall performance increase, cutting the load time of almost everything -- including the OS and apps -- by approx. 75%. From my perspective, an M.2 SSD is an absolutely crucial addition to any system running any slower or lower end HDD, and I can't encourage you enough to consider upgrading to this as your main system drive. Even with an older/slower M.2 SSD, you'll see an improvement in the OS load time.
